Transitioning The Way We Work

In light of COVID-19, CaliforniaHealth+ Advocates and our affiliate organization – the California Primary Care Association – made the decision to close our physical office on March 13, 2020.

Get Telehealth Win

In 2019, in response to a very different disaster, AB 1494 was introduced and championed by Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry. This legislation allows health centers to bill for services provided to a Medi-Cal beneficiary without face-to-face contact or a patient’s physical presence during a declaration of emergency.

At the end of April, CaliforniaHealth+ Advocates and our affiliate organization, the California Primary Care Association (CPCA), began discussions with community health center (CHC) leaders across the state to understand how testing for COVID-19 was working at CHCs. It quickly became clear that the state’s COVID-19 testing strategy did not appropriately incorporate or leverage CHCs, which ultimately is to the detriment of CHC patients and communities.

Federal Advocacy:
COVID-19 Relief

Community health centers (CHCs) throughout the state took a huge financial hit as they transitioned their organizations and rapidly responded to the need for screening and testing of COVID-19 patients while also continuing to address the urgent, non-Covid-19 related needs of the vulnerable patients they serve.

2020-21 May Revision to the Governor's Budget

On May 14, 2020, Governor Newsom released his 2020-21 May Revision. As predicted, the May Revise demonstrated the devastating impact COVID-19 had on our state finances, and the fact that every industry, every state agency, and every element of our daily lives has been upended.

Virtual Day at the Capitol

This year’s Day at the Capitol event was originally scheduled for April 24th, but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With everyone under a statewide Stay in Place (SIP) order, CaliforniaHealth+ Advocates worked to pivot the event to a virtual one based around the Legislature’s new modified schedule.
